Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, a special ceremony was held to celebrate the 20th anniversary.
A special tournament was organized by the club during the period 4th December to 12th December with the participation of Ghantoot Polo Team; Bin Drai Polo Team; Mahra/Habtoor Polo Team & Rhino’s Dr A polo Team, as announced during a press conference held on Monday at Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi in the presence of H.E. Saeed Bin Houfan Al Mansouri, Vice-Chairman and Mr. Ahmed Al Nuaimi the Managing Director of Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, alongside a number of athletes, officials and representatives of the participating teams as well as sponsoring representatives.
His Excellency Al Mansouri, said that it is a very special day to meet and celebrate the two decades of founding such a prestigious club in the UAE, which was founded by Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan (may his soul rest in peace) , and today its run by his son, H.H. Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, We proudly state as well, that the occasion meets another dear occasion to our hearts, the UAE’s 43rd National Day celebrations.
“We raise the deepest greetings on behalf of His Highness Sheikh Falah bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Chairman of the club and myself and the family of Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club to H.H. Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, The President of the UAE and H.H. Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice President and Prime Minister and Ruler of Dubai, and their Highnesses Supreme Council Members and rulers of the other Emirates, and H.H. General Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed forces and Chairman of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi and not forgetting the UAE citizens and residents, on the occasion of the National Day of the United Arab Emirates,” Al Mansouri said.
“We would like to thank all our partnering sponsors who have contributed in supporting the club and special thanks for all the media representatives for joining us in this happy occasion; you are true partners. And thanks also to the Emirates Palace Hotel for hosting this conference and for their warm greetings,” he added.
H.E. Al Nuaimi, has also shared his deepest greetings to the UAE, its rulers and the people for the happy occasion of UAE’s 43rd National Day, commenting that the club is honored to celebrate its 20th anniversary on the same date.
“Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club, which includes nine distinct courts, has been constructed according to international standards, and in accordance with the highest international clubs specifications, spreading an area of 300 hectares of grass lands. The club includes sports facilities, residential apartments and administrative offices surrounded by a beautiful oasis, making it the best club in the Middle East,” Al Nuaimi said.
He also added that the club plans to host His Highness the President of the UAE Polo Cup, which runs from the 4th until January 16th, 2014. Holding its previous title was Desert Palm team who surprised the crowds after taking a leap over previous champion Bin Drai Polo team, who finished second after losing a golden goal in that memorable wonderful game.
A historic leap was made for the club last season, as it honorably witnessed the participation of UAE polo star SheikhaMaithabint Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, who led the UAE Polo team during that tournament.
In February, the club will host H.H. UAE Presidents horse jumping competition, which starts Feb18th till the 21st 2015, March 21st, 2015 is reserved for a friendly British polo game. Towards the end of this sporting season Ghantoot Racing & Polo Club will host the Emirates open Polo championships, which will be held from March 25th until April 3rd, 2015 witnessing a large participation at the state level and the Gulf Cooperation Council countries. Former champions was Bin Drai polo team, second place went to Desert Palm (1), while Abu Dhabi Council Polo Team landed third place, and UAE Polo team came fourth.
It’s worth mentioning that the Club plans to bring together a charity season full of special programs, which includes a match scheduled 19th Dec prepared to support Al Ain care and rehabilitation center and be able to draw a wonderful smile on people with special needs faces. Towards the end, Club members have expressed gratitude to the Emirates Palace for wonderfully hosting the ceremony, and thanked all the sponsors; Al BastiEquiworld; Silkor Laser Medical Center &Bedashing Beauty Longue for their endless contribution and support.
On the sidelines of the conference, a draw for the upcoming tournament took place, as four teams will be competing head-to-head to win the upcoming Polo tournament.
The first team, Ghantoot Polo Team, includes Ali Al-Marri, SegndoMejions, Ramiro Zavaleta and Rodolfo Dox. Bin Drai team is led by Saeed bin Drai, SpjendoKavanash, Nichols and Thomas PetrashiAriyarta, as for Mahra/Habtoor Polo team, the list includes Habtour Al Habtoor, Santiago Gomez Ramiro, Khalaf Al Habtoor and Mario Jomes. The fourth and final team is called Dr. A / Reno team, which is led by Abdul Rahman, Stewart Wrigley, Santiago Sernads and Maximiliano Malakaza.
